Today’s world is moving at a rapid pace and we continue to find ourselves working in roles that could be considered “always on” jobs. Although we may be passionate and dedicated to these roles, often we forget one of the key functions to success: balance.
We all have many different roles to fill in our lives. We are Security Professionals, first aid attendants, customer service agents, parents, spouses, friends, caregivers, and volunteers in our communities. Not surprisingly, achieving balance among all these competing priorities can be difficult.
Everyone has priorities, and it is common that in these busy times, people put their careers and their families ahead of themselves. Reading this, you may wonder: but what am I without my work and my family? When people consider work-life balance, they often think of work and family or relationships, but often miss a very important part of the equation: YOU!
What is self-care? Self-care is just that – intentional actions and effort to take care of our own physical, mental, and emotional health.
While self-care is unique to everyone, for many it is commonly deprioritized and put on the back-burner, silently simmering unattended and forgotten. However, self-care really is important, and shouldn’t be neglected to the bottom of your priority list.
Self-care means different things to different people – perhaps it's listening to your favourite podcast, meditation, travel, enjoying a meal with friends, or going for a jog. At the root, self-care can be anything that nourishes your mind, body, or spirit. The trick is to make it a priority, rather than something you do when you have the time.
We’ve collected 3 Tips to help you make time for Self-Care:
Schedule into your calendar
We schedule meetings every day; make one of the meetings with yourself! Explore your hobbies, get active, or stimulate your mind.
Shut off devices
When you finally schedule that meeting with yourself, shut off the devices! Focus on the present activity that you have arranged for yourself.
Don’t feel guilty
Many of us view time to ourselves as ‘selfish,’ but that could not be further from the truth. When we take time for ourselves to pursue our passions, we end up happier, healthier, and more productive!
The Paladin culture is one of hard work, support, commitment and growth. We believe in constant and never ending improvement, challenging ourselves and recognizing one another. Although we encourage team recognition, self-care is an important piece to our work-life balance and what we like to call “The Paladin Difference.”
