Canada’s 10 Most Admired Corporate Cultures™ is founded and presented by Waterstone Human Capital, one of Canada's fastest-growing executive search firms for best practices in culture and fit. This national program, now in its ninth year, annually recognizes best-in-class Canadian organizations for having a culture that has helped them enhance performance and sustain a competitive advantage.
The annual Canadian Corporate Culture Study takes into consideration hundreds of program submissions nationwide and nominee interviews, in addition to local “Culture Summits” held in Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto in October last year. The 6th annual Corporate Culture Summit and national awards gala took place on Monday, February 3, 2014, when a team of ten members of Paladin - from CEO Ashley Cooper, to HR and front-line security staff - was honoured to accept the award on behalf of our 7,000+ strong workforce from coast to coast.
With the upcoming Sochi Winter Olympics just a few days away, this very special gala took inspiration from the Opening Ceremonies and the Parade of Nations to celebrate this year's "Culture Champions", with each winning company choosing a theme to best represent their corporate culture.
"A set piece took place in each episode," she continued. "Paladin’s business card is seen as a close-up with the drawing of a chessman, the horse-headed knight, which inspired Paladin Security’s brand and logo. The symbol refers to Paladin as a champion-for-hire, or as the theme song goes, “a knight without armour.” A strong moral role model, Paladin is well-schooled and highly cultured, who, like a chess master seeking control of the board, employs all of his talents and abilities to gain superior positioning in any situation - just like all of us!"
"As we go to great lengths to ensure we achieve just the right look for our valued clients," Rachel added, "our team also wore a variety of Paladin uniforms that can be customized to client needs, from our instantly recognizable shirts to our emblazoned high-visibility jackets and high-profile blazers. The cowboy hats were a Culture Champion addition as true Paladin knights!"
Paladin's sign-bearer, Toronto Human Resources Manager Terran Burke, played an important role at the event, accepting the award on his colleagues' behalf. Terran joined the Paladin family as a Security Officer in 2009. Thanks to our company’s practice of promotion from within, he was promoted to Employee Care Coordinator in our Toronto office, which is a senior position created in each branch nationwide to ensure our staff is supported and valued. Terran is now HR Manager overseeing recruitment and employee care for our busy Ontario operations, which includes administering reward and incentive programs to recognize our people as Paladin superstars.
Terran commented; "I was so honoured to be chosen to represent Paladin and had so much fun sharing the experience with our awesome staff via social media. We are the Employer of Choice in the industry because of the way we treat our people, which is why we are here today."
Organizer Lindsey Evanoff from Waterstone Human Capital is quoted as saying; "Being a culture champion or culture Olympian means your organization is the best of the best. It means you are as the Olympic motto states: faster, higher, stronger. You are the winners, the greatest among us - you are Canada’s 10!"
CEO Marty Parker concluded on the night; "Culture is perhaps the most valuable asset an organization can have. The program's findings have demonstrated, on an annual basis, how the winning organizations are outperforming their peers, so congratulations to all involved."
