Fortunately, what I thought would be a stepping stone in my life ended up being just the first step to where I am today with Paladin!
During the beginning stages of this journey, I was initially part of another security company, where my personal drive led me to becoming the supervisor at my site. With minimal support or recognition from my employer at the time, I maintained this position for a couple of years, all the while continuing to strive to change the perception of the security at our facility. I wanted to change the stereotype of us being viewed as ‘night watchmen’, with little value to staff or clients, to being recognized and respected for our hard work and professionalism. Most of all, I’ve always felt a great sense of pride and satisfaction in my career, seeing the enthusiasm of my peers to accomplish goals we never thought possible.
In May of 2008, we learned the welcome news that the company had been acquired by Paladin. Within the first few weeks of the transition, I was introduced to a gentlemen named Ashley Cooper, who was visiting my client and site. I was taken aback by the fact that he had already knew my name and my role and, for the very first time, I felt that the company I worked for recognized me as someone of value. This was the first of many occasions that reaffirmed for me that this was not your typical security company!
It was not long before management opportunities became possible which, after waiting for so many years to happen, was a sign of Paladin’s philosophy in promotion from within. With the support of our client, I was encouraged to apply for the Client Service Manager position, and was ultimately successful. I was assured that “Paladin places people in the right positions to succeed” which, little did I know, is one of the practices I would adopt for years to come.
The next few years were some of the most exciting, challenging and rewarding experiences of my life. It’s sometimes easy to underestimate the demands and expectations of what it takes to be a good leader, but with strong support and mentorship I could learn from any mistakes and ask as many questions as necessary to maintain Paladin’s high standards. Nothing but the best and leaving nothing on the table was instilled in my team every day. We all worked for the same core values and foundation that our company was built on, and it wasn’t long before Paladin’s strong reputation spread, as our operations grew.
Today, I am an Operations Manager, where I have the privilege of giving back to staff the opportunities that were afforded to me. It brings great satisfaction to see others succeed in their careers, and to be part of an organization that continues to expand and grow, affecting change across an industry.
While some days might be long or challenging, I can honestly say that there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t look forward to coming to work. Being surrounded by so many high performing individuals and working for an organization that supports its employees, while constantly striving to be the best, has been a truly rewarding experience.
