A unique series highlighting our teams across the country and providing a valuable insight into the security industry today.
When did you join the Paladin family?
I joined Paladin Security in Vancouver in January 2010 as a Security Officer, soon after I completed a degree in Criminology. I had just finished a practicum and felt that I needed some relevant working experience to complement my education. I was soon promoted to Site Supervisor, and then Mobile Coordinator, and finally to Mobile Client Service Manager which is my current position.
Why did you get into the security industry and why Paladin?
Back then, Paladin was already one of the biggest security companies in British Columbia. In pursuing a future career in policing, I chose to join Paladin based on its reputation in order to gain some work and life experience.
What interests you most about your job?
No two days are the same! I get to deal with many areas within the busy Mobile Department. My position is where operational matters, billing, scheduling and customer service all intersect. I enjoy being involved with different aspects of the company as it's so dynamic and gives me something new to tackle every day.
How do you see the industry evolving in the future?
Of particular relevance to the Mobile Department is the impact of technology on the security industry as a whole. The explosive popularity of tablet technology could mean that we can eventually move to a fully paperless and integrated security system. Our Mobile Patrol Officers will soon be able to submit all of the particulars in one single report, which will allow for greater efficiencies and client service.
What advice would you give anyone entering the security industry today?
Work hard to be at the top of your game. Always remember that you never know who is watching! If you are seeking career advancement in this industry, think about your superiors' expectations of you and plan to exceed them.
