I began as a Security Officer working in North Vancouver and, from there, worked my way up through the ranks, including in our Mobile Division, Private Investigations, as Field Manager, Scheduling Manager, Operations Manager and Director of Operations in our Vancouver Branch, before making the move to Alberta. I became Director of Operations in our Edmonton Branch in 2003 and, in 2011, I assumed my current role of Vice President.
My twenty year journey with Paladin has been a rewarding one. I have been fortunate enough to have worked with so many inspirational people throughout the years, and I've loved being able to help others along their career path with us.
Why did you get into the security industry and why Paladin?
I came to Paladin Security looking for a career rather than a job. I had previous experience in Canine Security as well as Hotel Security, and I had just finished a year of criminology at Langara College. Security/Policing appealed to me, and I never looked back.
Aside from working with some terrific people and developing life-long friendships, what interests me the most about my life at Paladin is the challenges that we face on a daily basis. Our commitment to evolving best practices to better service our valued clients and customers, in the hands of our industry-leading team of security professionals, is what makes my day.
How do you see the industry evolving in the future?
The industry will continue to grow and become more specialized with the development of new technology and security systems. Security Officers will always be indispensable; equipped with better tools to make our service delivery as efficient as possible.
What advice would you give anyone entering the security industry today?
Never underestimate your abilities. If you have a strong work ethic, and you're willing to listen and learn from others in the industry, and take what they have learned to develop their skills, then your future is bright. Security is much more sophisticated today than when I entered the industry, so take advantage of everything there is on offer. Complete as many security training courses as you can, attend seminars and discussions around the industry, and read publications or blogs such as this to keep you informed.
Here's to the next twenty years!
