Over 30 Paladin Security staff from our Vancouver branch attended the summit; with day 1 focusing on Healthcare Security, and day 2 on current and future security technology trends.
Monday's highlights included 3 Paladin Security Officers from VGH who were recognized with the BC IAHSS Award of Merit, as well as 2 of our management staff elected to the BC IAHSS Chapter executive committee for the next two years. Attendees also heard Alberta Health Services client Ed Yeomans laud the work of Paladin’s Southern Alberta team for their “above and beyond” efforts in support of flood response efforts in June, which represented one of the worst natural disasters in Canadian history.
Day 2 saw presentations from North American security leaders covering Security Master Planning, Next Generation Access Control Systems, Video Security Systems and Data Analytics.
BC Director of Healthcare Andrew Pattison, CPHA, commented; "Highlights for the second day included a presentation by Mike Levin, Senior Director of Global Security for Microsoft, which showcased their holistic security program that services over 90,000 employees in 700 buildings worldwide. Mike provided a live virtual tour of Microsoft's 3 fully redundant Operations Centres in the US, UK and India; speaking with representatives in each via Radio Over IP as if they were next door."
"He also highlighted their complete redundancy by literally shutting down the US Ops Centre and demonstrating the seamless transition to the UK and India with no effect for the end-users," Andrew continued. "One of the most impressive aspects was that many of the systems used were “off the shelf” Microsoft products, so everyone came away with great ideas to take back to their organizations and, of course, benefited from networking and a highly informative session."
