- How long have you worked in security & what drew you to the industry?
I joined Paladin Security in Lethbridge in 2011. I have always had a keen interest in law enforcement and I have been volunteering with the Victim Witness Program in Saskatchewan, Brooks and Lethbridge for approximately ten years. In doing so, I was able to take training in Communications Dispatch with the Moose-Jaw Police Services, and was asked by the Chief of Police to participate in the Community Policing course. I then went on to take six weeks hands-on training with Moose-Jaw RCMP. Upon moving to Alberta, the opportunity to join the Paladin Family became available, so I applied, was called for an interview, I was hired and undertook intense security training, and here I am today. One of my greatest rewards working with Alberta Health Services is the rapport I have built with my team, hospital staff and, most of all, the success and wellbeing of the patients. - What unique traits do you feel women bring to security?
Women in security bring an understanding and compassion that reaches out to the community in a more nurturing manner, which is especially important in healthcare security when dealing with patients. We're generally not seen as rough or abrasive, but we're firm when called upon. - Why are women in leadership so important for the growth of the industry?
Women in leadership are very important to all industries and careers because women bring a different perspective to the job. As more women look to forge more diverse paths, their special insight will bring a more positive and well balanced change to the workforce as a whole. - How do you see our roles evolving in the future?
I see our roles taking precedence as we work together with one common goal in mind - to provide quality service and to be the best we can be in securing and preserving the protection and privacy of the public, which is one of our main purposes in the industry. - What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given that you’d like to pass on to women following in your footsteps?
Be diligent and honest in every aspect of your job, and work with a positive attitude. Follow your dreams!
