- How long have you worked in security & what drew you to the industry?
I have been a part of the #PaladinFamily since July 2011. I started at Paladin Security in Grande Prairie working as a Healthcare Security Officer. After three months, I applied and received a promotion from within as Paladin Team Lead. After three years in that role, I transferred to continue my career as a Healthcare Protective Services Officer. Initially, what drew me to Paladin was simply that they were offering superior pay rates. Now that I have experienced the Paladin Difference, it’s about so much more than money! I love my job, this company, and all the opportunities available to learn and grow. - What unique traits do you feel women bring to security?
I have been told that women bring a softer, gentler side to the security industry with their compassion and understanding nature. In some cases I agree, but I don’t think that is the only thing that women bring to the table. I’ve met a lot of very strong, driven women who work in this field. Women are smart and ambitious and when we want something, we make it happen! - Why are women in leadership so important for the growth of the industry?
Women in leadership roles shows growth, change, and diversity not only within the security industry, but in the workforce overall. It’s so important for women to assert themselves as leaders and to have confidence in their abilities. Knowing our own strength and potential is the key to ensuring the role of Women in Security continues to expand and grow. - How do you see our roles evolving in the future?
Our roles will evolve as the industry evolves. As long as there are women stepping up and proving themselves, our presence in the security industry will only get stronger. - What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given that you’d like to pass on to women following in your footsteps?
I have been given so much advice over the years, I could type for days passing on my learnings. However, the strongest one that comes to mind is “Always strive to better yourself.” Queen Elizabeth The Second Hospital Team Lead Community Peace Officer Stephen LEE. This field is always changing which means you will have so many opportunities to keep learning, growing yourself, and also growing your career into whatever you want it to be. Don’t underestimate yourself or your potential, Paladin will give you all the tools you need to succeed; you just have to say yes!
