Winnipeg WCB Security Supervisor, Arvinder Pal Singh, and Senior Officer, Olu Sokunbi, consistently offer next-level customer service to the injured workers who come through the building's doors everyday. The duo is stationed outside of the elevators in the building lobby where they exchange friendly greetings with both staff and visitors. Both men attribute their deep understanding of people to their Master's Degrees in Marketing they attained before moving to Canada.
“Often, security is the frontline for customers, their skills add another layer of customer service we didn’t have in this establishment before,” says WCB Safety and Security Manager, Tyler Nahorny.
For Olu, who loves meeting new people, being on the frontlines is what he likes most about the job. The Nigerian born father of two moved to Winnipeg and started on WCB’s security team in 2016. He moved to join his family after living in the UK for nearly eight years.
While Olu appreciates that his work at WCB has made him pay more attention to safety in his personal life, he says his sons will often tell him, “Dad, you worry too much!”
“This heightened awareness is key,” explains Arvinder, who is looking to build a career in Law Enforcement. Originally from the Punjab province of India, he moved to Canada in 2017 and enjoys every part of meeting people from different communities.
“ I love my job and every time I’m at work, I will be at my 100%. Working at a site where people come in already and frustrated, following policies and procedures is very important,” he further explains.
The fantastic job both Arvinder and Olu are doing hasn’t gone unnoticed by Tyler and Director of Administration, Ray Daumler.
“I believe the gentlemen are friendly, courteous, professional and very attentive. They are much appreciated,” says Ray.
“The Value I see in having them here is they’re constantly engaged and committed to giving quality service and they’re invested in the WCB and its staff,” adds Tyler.
“They’re the eyes and ears for the WCB, and they’re the solid foundation and backdrop for our overall security program. Both are very diligent in their roles, and they play a significant role here by being proactive in helping staff with their safety needs as well as customer service requests when they arise.”
