The Paladin family participated in the 4th Annual Education Summit, hosted by Integrated Protection Services, and the IAHSS BC Chapter November 23/24, 2015.
COO Don MacAlister presented the first speaker of the summit, Susan Brown, VP Acute Services at Interior Health Authority.
One highlight for Paladin was seeing five of our local healthcare officers with the IAHSS BC Medal of Merit, for their outstanding efforts on the job.
On June 28, 2015, Security Officers Godoy and G. Gill noticed a male on the ground inside the male washroom at their site. The male would not respond to the officers’ questions and complained he was in pain, wishing to speak to police. Security suggested he be triaged, but the male remained uncooperative and additional Security Officers D. Singh and B. Anderson, along with Shift Supervisor A. Frech, were called for assistance.
The male stood up and kicked the washroom stall door open, and brandished a large knife (machete), charging towards security. Security immediately responded, taking control of the suspect and the machete, and managed to safely subdue the male before he could cause harm to anyone.
“The award is well deserved,” Andrew Pattison, Senior Director of Healthcare shared;
Our Security Officers working in Healthcare facilities across the country do amazing work every day; it’s not uncommon for our Security Officers to routinely face challenging, and even dangerous situations. This incident in particular, highlights the unpredictable nature of our industry. I am incredibly proud of this team for their quick action, teamwork and highly professional response to an extreme situation that could have ended in a much different outcome.
