Protect Yourself Against Recruitment Scams
In the digital age of online job platforms, recruitment advertising, and social media, recruitment scams and impersonators can easily fool job seekers. Fraudsters and fake job advertisements can look convincing, especially when they illegally use the names and logos of highly reputable companies.
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a good time to review how you can protect yourself online, including when applying for work. Common scams include the following:
- SMS (text) job opportunities
- WhatsApp job groups
- Online job groups set up by individuals (not companies)
- Online videos providing coaching or references for fees
- Fake company profiles
- Requests for e-transfers to process an application, receive training, or pay for a uniform
Three things to check before you trust a job opportunity or offer
- Start with the company’s official website
Always apply through the employer’s official careers page and follow its application links. If you discover a position on social media or a job board, check the company’s website to confirm the opportunity is legitimate before proceeding.
- Confirm the identity of the person contacting you
Review the sender’s full email address, not just their display name. Be sure to confirm that the email address exactly matches the company’s official domain.
If you are unsure, contact the company using information from its official website. Do not rely solely on phone numbers, links or social media accounts supplied by the person who contacted you.
- Review the offer before sharing sensitive information
An offer letter should include the name, title and contact information of an official company representative. If you think key details are missing, then PAUSE. Contact the company through their head office phone number or website to verify the credibility of the offer.
Only after you have confirmed that the job offer is legitimate should you sign the contract. After that step, the company may request sensitive information such as identification documents and banking details.
Applying to Paladin Security: What you should know
You can begin your application through Paladin Security’s official careers page. Select your province, then follow these steps to apply:
- Find a position. In our hiring portal, you can filter opportunities by location, job title, posting date, and other criteria.
- Submit your application. Complete the online form and upload your resume. Once you have applied, you will receive an email confirmation that your application has been received.
- Complete screening and/or interviews. A Paladin representative will review your application and contact you using a paladinsecurity.com email address. Preliminary interviews are conducted over the phone. If candidates are successful through the pre-screening process, additional interviews may take place virtually or in person.
- Receive a conditional offer. Successful candidates receive a conditional offer and will complete any required training, certifications, and site-specific orientation before beginning their assignment.
Please note the following:
- Paladin does not charge you to secure employment. Never pay someone in exchange for a job with Paladin.
- Paladin does not charge you for your uniform. We ensure our team members are well-equipped with professional uniforms for each specific assignment.
- Paladin does not recruit through WhatsApp groups or social media chats. A message in one of these groups should not be treated as an official Paladin offer.
