An Open Letter by Ovado James, Senior Client Service Manager – Toronto
Dreaming gives the perception of unrealism, however, we see that dreaming is often times where great success is born."
I am writing today to share my evolving thoughts surrounding black history and experiences as a black male in Canada. First, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Ovado James. I am a husband, and father of three beautiful children. My journey with Paladin began in 2011 as a Security Officer, and I am currently a Senior Client Service Manager with Paladin Security Group Ltd.
Black history to me is a time to reflect and celebrate all the many contributions African Americans have made in order to open doors for the black nation. It is also a time to honor those who have made countless sacrifices to ensure we have the same level of rights as our neighbors. As I reflect on the monumental moments of history, I am also reminded that we still have some more ground to cover, while recognizing we have come a long way. Through the years many are becoming aware that race can contribute to societal injustices.
Awareness about black experiences has increased over the last year. More open conversations are being had, which makes me very confident about raising my children throughout these times. It is my hope that as we continue to educate ourselves on black history and the experience of the culture, we will recognize that there are more similarities than differences. I do feel fortunate to be part of a company that has exemplified its support in diversity. Throughout my years working with Paladin and growing with the company, I have always felt I was given equal opportunity.

I believe the culture that has been created here in Canada makes room for correction and is accepting and receiving the many diversities that make up the nation. Great leaders like Martin Luther King encourage me to keep pursuing my dreams and to never give up no matter the cost. Dreaming gives the perception of unrealism, however, we see that dreaming is often times where great success is born.
Thank you,
Ovado James
