Edmonton, AB, April 7, 2020 – We would like to congratulate our Paladin Security team in Edmonton for their success on winning the 2020 BOMA Pinnacle Award for Innovation.
Each year, the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) celebrates building and management excellence in the city of Edmonton. Allied members, such as Paladin Security, who provide services to a principal member, are eligible for the following award categories:
- Certification of Customer Service Excellence
- Pinnacle Award for Customer Service
- Pinnacle Award for Innovation
- Pinnacle Award for Above and Beyond
The Pinnacle Award for Innovation recognizes and promotes innovation in the commercial building industry. This innovation may be seen in a beneficial company program, product or service, an efficient way to solve specific needs, or an inventive way to keep customers happy.
Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the BOMA Edmonton Awards Gala has been postponed. As a result, our Edmonton branch was notified through email that they won the 2020 Pinnacle Award for Innovation for their ingenious “Compassion to Action” program. Our teams worked closely to create a program that is based not on enforcement, but on compassion -- especially for the vulnerable. This includes finding solutions for their needs, whether it be locating shoes or a jacket for someone, contacting 211 for assistance, or simply approaching people with empathy, care, and compassion.
Recently, The Imagine Institute and a representative from United Way spent time with Paladin Security and Edmonton City Centre’s Safety and Security Manager, Pam Brown. Their goal was to observe our team’s compassion-based delivery of service in order to develop a training program of their own. Once their program was established, they invited Paladin Security Officers and management to critique the program and provide their feedback. Today, the Imagine Institute offers the training program to many industries and Community workers.
Paladin Security is changing the scope of enforcement-based security programs. We are doing this by showcasing how a “Compassion to Action” program can not only reduce criminal activity, but can also build communities, support the vulnerable, and lower the incidents towards our employees. Today, this program is utilized at many locations we serve within the city of Edmonton.
Other service industry providers are now recognizing “Compassion to Action” programs as a way of working with the community in order to provide solutions to their needs. As a result, one of our Security Officers is now a part-time instructor for Imagine Institute. This program has provided him with an opportunity to teach others about what he does daily as a Security Officer at Paladin Security, and what qualifications they might need to apply.
Greg Swecera, Vice President, commented, “In the past, we have achieved other BOMA Awards, however, I am extremely proud we have won the Pinnacle Award for Innovation. This award recognizes that our approach in the security industry differs to what our competition is doing. It recognizes that Paladin Security is forward thinking and progressive in our actions. On behalf of Paladin Security, and our team of Security Officers, thank you BOMA Edmonton for recognizing our innovation of putting “Compassion to Action”. This innovation has helped our efforts of making Edmonton a safer and friendlier place to live, work, and visit.”
Our Edmonton branch has previously won the following BOMA awards:
- 2016 Re-Certification of Customer Service Excellence
- 2016 Pinnacle Award for Above and Beyond the Call of Duty (Mark Bakos) in support with Oxford Properties
- 2015 Customer Service Excellence
- 2010 Pinnacle Award for Above and Beyond the Call of Duty (Elias Alvarez) in support of Harvard Properties

Paladin Security is extremely proud to be recognized by BOMA Edmonton once again. We are committed to innovative solutions in the commercial building security industry, and we are excited to continue to implement our compassion-based services.
