How long have you been with Paladin Security?
I have been with Paladin Security since November 2016. I am working full-time at VGH.
What does Remembrance Day symbolize to you?
Remembrance Day symbolizes reflection on sacrifice and commitment that servicemen and servicewomen have made for freedom. It’s not just those who gave their lives but also those who were willing to do so. The struggles and hurdles that they have faced serving must be honored and never forgotten.
What is the organization you are involved in outside of Paladin?
I serve with the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada. It is a primary reserve infantry regiment.
What skills and/or values have you developed while in service that help you to be successful in your role today?
The main thing that the service has helped me with in my civilian career is the mindset you have during difficult and stressful situations. The infantry training isn’t easy, but you learn that the mission comes first, and you need to accomplish that mission at all costs. When you're stressed, tired, and physically exhausted; all that pours into your head and it’s tough to focus on the task at hand. How I behaved in these situations helped me think and reflect on my character during stressful situations. It’s a big eye opener that has helped me at work.
If you could give advice to someone following in your footsteps today, what would it be?
When times are hard, it’s time to toughen up. I don’t hear that often enough. The tasks you will do will not be easy, maybe sometimes it will, but persevere and you will come out the other end a better person.
