The first day back after the festive holidays is reported to be one of the most depressing days of the year.
Although we all had fun celebrating at holiday parties, luncheons, and gatherings, it is a hard reality when it’s back to the routine!
As one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies, our teams across the country are dedicated to ensuring our corporate culture lives on no matter what time of year. Work-life balance is important and as we set ourselves up for 2017, we share some tips to engage and motivate one another at work!
Communicate Clearly
Employees return to work after the holidays and are greeted by an overloaded inbox. Sorting through the abundance of communication is the first hurdle, retaining information is the second. Team meetings or phone calls are a great way to connect with the group and share important messages.
Set New Year Goals
As many set New Year’s resolutions, what better way to reconnect the team than to do the same in the workplace? Brainstorm long-term and short-term goals to achieve this year, while reevaluating pending project goals to ensure alignment. Setting goals will help keep your teams focused and working to further their careers.
Support Teamwork
Post-holiday blues can come in waves. Typically, there is an increased workload and breakdowns in teamwork may occur. Support each other at all levels of the team to make sure that everyone is aware of their responsibilities and how to accomplish projects.
Acknowledgement
A thank you goes a long way. To get your colleagues motivated while the main topics are catching up on holiday events, acknowledge the accomplishments. Thank you goes a long way when we are getting back into the swing of things. Colleagues who feel appreciated are going to work harder and take pride in the tasks ahead.
