Why did you get into security & why Paladin Security?
I was looking for a job that was interesting. Previous to my coming into security, I was in an office and I looked for something that has more varied experience and meaningful work. That being said, I got exactly what I wanted— we're dealing with different things every day and the last thing I think of this is is that it's boring or that it doesn't matter. I really like working with Paladin. The managers at the Kingston and Ottawa branches and their whole team has been extremely good to me and my staff.
What interests you most about your job?
I've done several jobs with security but I've only been a Site Coordinator with Paladin. Although management is mostly what I do now, it's still the same stuff that was interesting to me before: incidents and emergency management. There's always something new and unique scenarios everyday.
What advice would you give someone entering the security industry today?
It's the same advice I would give to anyone working in any industry: work, like life is what you make of it. If you want to have a good job, do a good job and put in the effort even if some tasks aren't your favourite. Show up with enthusiasm and work hard and you will get a great response. Hard work pays off.
How do you maintain a healthy work-life balance?
Work-life balance is not always easy. We can get calls at odd hours of the day and we deal with stressful scenarios at times. What works well for me is knowing what makes me happy and for me, that's being in nature. If I start to feel stressed, I put a lot more effort in giving myself more time for me, getting out and exploring nature. I think most of life's problems can be solved during a long walk.
