How long have you been in security & what drew you into the industry?
I started working in security in August 2016. I was browsing for a job online and when I saw a Paladin posting and applied; I didn't realize I would actually get a call-back. I really like that we get to do a lot of different things and if I don't feel that a placement suits me, the management team is gracious enough to find a site that does. There are many different opportunities like the hospital training I had just started and I especially like that I can interact with everybody.
What unique traits do you feel women bring to security?
I believe that a lot of times, we're more willing to interact with everybody and not just be a body that's standing by the doors. Also, we're easily approached in some situations, but that can also be a double-edged sword since there's a possibility that we're not taken seriously as a woman in security.
How do you maintain a healthy work-life balance?
Paladin definitely helps me maintain a good balance between my work and personal life. When I'm offered a shift, I'm given a choice on whether to accept it or not depending on my availability. If I need to take a day off, I can simply let them know with enough notice.
What's the best piece of advice that you've been given that you'd like to pass on to women following in your footsteps?
Don't assume that nobody is going to take you seriously, stand tall and be confident in who you are.
