At Paladin Security, we believe the best way to create a strong team is through employee development and our promotion-from-within philosophy. Through our development programs, an employee can plot their own career path within our organization, lending stability to our workforce. In our bi-weekly feature, Paladin Then & Now, we're showcasing some of the amazing and inspirational stories of our employees raising through the ranks. This week, we’re featuring Namrata Kaur, Systems Support Specialist.
Namrata Kaur | Systems Support Specialist – Provisioner
Namrata has been part of the Paladin Family for three years. Before moving into her current position as an IT provisioner at Head Office, Namrata worked in the field, starting as a part-time security officer at Surrey City Hall before transitioning into an on-call officer, and then full-time officer at ICBC Head Office. While working in the field, Namrata earned a master’s in Information, Computer and Network Security, which she credits for helping her land her current position.
Namrata first joined Paladin because she was new to Canada and was in need of work. She heard a lot about the company through friends but wasn’t aware of the promote-from-within philosophy. As she met others in different departments, she slowly learned about it, and now is a reflection of how it works.
Once she completed her master’s degree, Namrata knew she wanted to be in the IT department and leaned on her mentors, Dmitry Yakovenko and Kristoffer Knutsen, who encouraged her to apply for internal positions.
Transitioning from field to office
For Namrata, the transition was a smooth one, thanks to a great first impression.
“I remember when I first came into the office to train as a security guard, I was fascinated by people working inside of the access-controlled doors and I would wonder how awesome it would be to work in this office,” Namrata said.
She adds that one of her favourite things about Paladin is how everyone helps grow and guide you in the right direction. She says all her supervisors motivated her, including Paladin Executive Vice President Shane Wright, who she met while working at the ICBC Head Office. Namrata says she was fascinated by his story of transition from field to executive wing. That really motivated her to apply for other roles within the company.
Something else that stands out for Namrata is the appreciation you get for your work from superiors.
Namrata’s advice to others
“I would say be diligent with your work, be consistent in your efforts, work persistently for your goals and you will achieve it. “
