For the second year in a row, Paladin has received a prestigious title: being named one of Canada’s Best Employers by Forbes. And the best part about it, it’s our employees who made it happen.
We were first awarded Forbes Canada’s Best Employers in January 2020. Read about it here.
Each year, Paladin continues to grow and push the boundaries, all while staying in line with our goals and values, which makes for an exciting and enticing workplace.
“We are so excited to have been named a Best Employer for two years running with Forbes,” said Paladin CEO Ashley Cooper. “For over 45 years we have focused on being the employer of choice in the security industry because we know that by having an engaged, empowered, and knowledgeable team, our clients receive the very best in service. In short, by becoming the employer of choice in the industry, we have also become the supplier of choice and this has helped us grow our company.”
So, what else makes Paladin such a great company to work for? Let’s dive in and have a look.
CULTURE
First and foremost, it is the culture that leads to Paladin’s success. Each employee goes through a 12 Step Selection Process to ensure they are the proper fit and possess the right skill set to find success. We also are committed to the highest standards of training within the industry, which allows our team members to develop long-term careers, rather than short-term jobs. This formula results in committed team members who are eager to provide a high level of customer service.
LEADERSHIP
Many members of our leadership team started as Security Officers, a progression which has been key in helping Paladin revolutionize security practices in the industry. The results speak for themselves; for eight years in a row, Paladin has been named one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies, earning us platinum status. Our leaders are committed to creating and maintaining an environment where everyone feels included and where success is recognized.
TRAINING
We offer an industry-leading selection process and highly advanced and specialized training customized to suit each client’s various needs. What also helps us stand out is that our officers receive additional training based on their site assignment and the industries we serve, which ranges from 40-120 extra hours of knowledge and skills.
OUR PROMOTE-FROM-WITHIN PHILOSOPHY
Paladin strongly believes in equipping our people with the best training available. We are confident the best way to create a strong team is through employee development and our promotion-from-within philosophy. Through our development programs, an employee can plot their own career path within our organization, lending stability to our workforce. You will find countless stories of our employee’s personal growth and promotional advancement within the Paladin ranks. See the stories of Shane Wright, Jeff Peng, Rajeev Tauckoor, and many more in our Paladin Profiles.
FINDING STABILITY THROUGH COVID-19
Something that also lends a hand to our positive work environment is how Paladin has handled the Covid-19 Pandemic. Officers in the field received extra training, proper PPE, and support in order to conduct their duties safely and without any hesitation. Meanwhile, our branches and head office staff have quickly adapted and found ways to create safe work environments to support all of our valued staff who support our clients each and every day. The bottom line is that despite no longer being together under one roof, we have found ways to keep in touch, an initiative that was driven by our leadership group.
FAMILY MENTALITY
We pride ourselves on offering an environment that feels like family. Just take a look at what some of our employees have to say for proof.
“I love the family atmosphere. Paladin Family doesn't just mean having fun at work. It’s the support that each of our employees receive from anyone at Paladin, whether it’s pursuing your personal passions, having your back, or pushing you to be your best. Ask almost anyone at Paladin and they'll give countless examples of that.”
-Alexandra Lowe, Director of Marketing
“My favourite thing about working for Paladin is the overall support available to employees. Employee care is a very important facet of our organization and I feel very aligned with this value at all levels.”
-Matthew Garcin, Director of Northern Alberta
“The workplace has a family type atmosphere. There's a sense of belonging and feeling you belong when you interact with those around you.”
-Jason Magallanes, Training Manager
“I love being able to help people; Whether it is raising donations for charities in our community or giving individual attention to our employees, who just need someone to talk to. My career has been filled with supporting our front-line staff and the community. It gives me a true sense of purpose while contributing to my job satisfaction. “
-Samantha Levesque, People & Culture Manager, Fort McMurray
HOW THE LIST WAS DETERMINED
Statista surveyed 8,000 people (all anonymous) working for companies with 500 or more employees. They were asked to rate how likely they would be to recommend their employer to others and to also nominate an organization other than their own. The final list ranks the 300 employers who received the most recommendations. According to Forbes, the title serves to reinforce Paladin’s reputation as an employer of high quality.
