Empowering Women in Security
At Paladin Security, we strongly believe in advocating for and empowering women. The Harmandeep Kaur Women in Security Scholarship was created to do just that – help provide women opportunities to succeed in the security industry while also honouring Harmandeep Kaur, a beloved Paladin Security Officer who died in February 2022.
The inaugural recipient of the scholarship is Anchaldeep Kaur. Anchaldeep is a Paladin Security Officer from Delta, BC, and is currently enrolled at University Canada West, where she is working towards completing her master’s in business administration. She said her manager encouraged her to apply for the scholarship as she felt Anchaldeep’s values strongly aligned with Paladin’s CARE values.
"Over the years, I have been a champion of women in security by advocating for equal opportunities, breaking down stereotypes, and overcoming the challenges faced by women,” said Anchaldeep.
“When I found out that I won, I had to read the email twice. I’m so grateful for this opportunity," she added.
“We are very pleased to recognize Anchaldeep as this year’s Harmandeep Kaur Women in Security Scholarship recipient," said Paladin Security President Chad Kalyk.
"Our scholarship committee was impressed by Anchaldeep’s ambition, motivation, career aspirations and her desire to make a difference in people’s lives. She is a great example to all Paladinians, but especially to our aspiring and capable female employees who contribute so much to making the world and safer and friendlier place. We cannot wait to see what the future holds for Anchaldeep and hope this scholarship helps accelerate her path to fulfill her dreams.”
Anchaldeep joined Paladin in the fall of 2022 where she discovered her true passion: talking to people and helping solve their problems. Doing so daily, and often dealing with the Delta Police, helped her determine her calling – becoming a police officer. Anchaldeep also credits her site supervisor Cheryl for showing she can pursue any career she wants.
“We have the mentality that females don’t fit into tough roles very well. But when I see my manager, Cheryl, she’s very tough, and she’s doing great work, and that motivates me,” Anchaldeep said.
“I didn’t have plans to be a police officer before, but when I got into security and saw the Delta Police working there and saw my manager dealing with people, I thought, well, she’s doing it, and doing it well, and I think I’m capable of doing it too.”
Anchaldeep was one of nearly 50 applicants for the scholarship.
A career in security can be very rewarding and lead to numerous opportunities, such as entering law enforcement. Paladin believes that employees can plot their own career paths and provides support for them to achieve their goals. This is done through programs such as Paladin to Policing and other mentorship opportunities.
About Harmandeep Kaur
Harmandeep Kaur was an amazing person who had a passion for education, career advancement, and advocating for women in security. Her values are something Paladin Security wanted to honour as a way to help keep her memory alive. The 24-year-old was tragically killed just over a year ago.
